It's been tried and reported forever and is absolute nonsense. Those who report mileage increases are driving more carefully. The only way it'll help is if timing is advanced to the extent that a higher octane will delay ignition and improve burn. Even if that's a problem, the percentage of acetone people are suggesting isn't enough to notice.
Desperation is breeding some real gems these days.
