Good choice.

The tuning's a bit odd (at least, from the tab I've seen), but it certainly does sound nice even though it's such a sad song.
Another sad one I really like to play is Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' (It's the first real song I ever learned how to play all the way through)
Lots of good choices here. Mayer is an excellent choice, although some of his stuff is a bit difficult and 'thin,' in my opinion.
Jack Johnson is a good one too, but 'Taylor?' Isn't that about a young hooker? I've read the lyrics and ran the song through my head a couple of times and I believe he's talking about Taylor being a hooker. I mention this only because I don't think it'd be wise to sing songs about call girls to your girlfriend.
There's been a few mentions of The Beatles... I really like 'Julia' and 'Dear Prudence'
