In Mexico, the drink of choice with non top shelf sippling tequilia is Squirt, which is a grapefruit flavored soft drink.
Clear or silver tequila is 80 proof tequila right out of the vat. Reposada is slightly yellow and the tequila has mellowed in oak casks for several months. Top shelf tequila will typically be anejo or golden and will have aged in oak casks fro soem time.
Typically, the casks are the used ones from the US from Kentucky or Tennessee distilleries.
Good trivia. The beverage is actually mezcal, but it is mezcal from the environs around Tequila, Jalisco, therefore, mezcal de Tequila, or, Tequila.
