hey thanks everyone for the replies, I just went and got a new psu as i know that mine needed an upgrade anyway.....and my old psu was only a 300watter (maybe that was the issue, 3 hd's, 3 case fans, dvd burner) .....will try some of the steps listed above and giver a go! thanks again everyone.
