No idea, but my friends and I dubbed that game, "The run backwards and shoot game." So maybe your friend just held down on the joystick and unloaded all his ammo. For about 30 minutes.
Seriously, play it multiplayer with some like-minded friends. That's the way to get the most fun out of it. You won't even care that you have infinite continues. Make it a drinking game. Everytime you die, take a shot. You'll be on the ground in no time.
