It'll work fine. Don't worry about the higher mAh rating. No fast discharge path in a phone to cause overcurrent problems like with some older cameras. You won't have to worry about a memory effect with NiMH, so if you used to leave the phone off-base until it discharged, that requirement is gone.
You should definitely see better runtime but both NiCd and NiMH lose ~1-1.5%/day.
