You said it. I think they just do it to keep the computer/ram/vid card companies in business. I can run Half-Life 2 & Far Cry on my AthlonXP2000+/1G Ram/ATI9800Pro on medium settings fine, while FEAR turns into a slideshow - literally - if I try to go above absolute minimum graphics. Just silly. Maybe just par for the demo, and the game will be optimized for the release.
I think the demo shows promise. The railgun-like gun is pretty cool, everything about the the shotgun sucks, the pistol sounds awesome, while the assault rifle and penetrator sound like toys. I REALLY hope they fix these. Graphics seem better than average (on low settings grrrrr)...level was pretty damn atmospheric, although its no System Shock 2 (so far) imo.
Looks like maybe the best shooter to come out since HL2. I'll most likely buy it as soon as it comes out.
