You don't need the cd audio cable. It's mostly vestigial unless your equipment is ancient. I wouldn't expect you'd find a box that needed it less than 5-7yrs old. Just open device manager and check properties for your DVD drive. Make sure "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device" is checked.

Ya, Store bought CD's play with sound.
I checked the device manager and everything seems good there.
My computer was built within the past 7 or 8 months, I checked for any cables coming out of the back of the DVD drive, I didn't see any extra wires hanging that were unplugged.
So maybe it's a codec issue?
