I noticed that too Doc, though my thoughts were that his character and the growth of his character were written with that end in mind.
Ken Foree's character was hilarious. I think the best line in the whole movie comes from the Star Wars conversation he has with that hooker, "The last thing we need are a bunch of horny robots runnin' around trippin' over shit."

The motel scene made me so uncomfortable that I almost felt like turning away or closing my eyes...wasn't it awesome? 
I also though that the beginning shootout at the house was directed phenomenally, it had my heart racing.
