I did a search and found one other thread regarding tubal ligation. It said a lot about vasectomy though as well and didn't address one big question that's in my mind.

I am seriously considering going off the pill once and for all. I'd personally like to have the procedure done instead of hubby because I do not - absolutely do not want an accident. Especially with our lifestyle.

Now my Mom is quite anxious that I want to have this done. She has not voiced any concerns about me not having more grandkids. She's already expecting twins on my brother's side so she'll have plenty to do. She's not an active grandparent either. She does say that she's known several women who had ligations or had their tubes tied. She said that there were lots of side effects including weight gain, monthly cramps were worse and there was supposedly one where the tubes had been cut and somehow she managed to get an ectopic pregnancy. She's got quite a few horror stories.

Mom says that the Dr's get kickbacks from the birthcontrol pill companies. Dunno if it's true or not. But she believes the Dr's won't tell me the truth or all of it anyway. So I'm going to you guys. I'd like to hear from you if you are aware of side effects. I haven't found reliable sources on the internet that list many side effects. If you can find any I would appreciate it greatly.

So are the side effects and what are they? The procedure doesn't scare me at all. I would also like to know which you consider better, Tying the tubes or cutting them?? and which is more effective, equal??
