After you get past the semantics of respect vs. courtesy, then it seems that you're down to an issue of some people enjoying crude, foul-mouthed, possibly pejorative phrases to describe others, and some people not. Yep - that's American culture alright. I just don't think any consensus is going to be reached on the appropriate way to converse with relate to your fellow human beings, on this type of point. It seems that it's a subset of cultural communication, similar in some ways to some people liking hard-core rap or punk, and some people liking classical or opera.
