Windows XP networking

Ok, I read everything thru the computer thread and didn't really find a solution to what my problem is. I haven't a clue of what information is needed, but I'm gonna try to put in as much as I can.

So, I've got two computers trying to network them so that my daughter can use the internet from hers with mine hosting. I want to be able to turn off her access from mine. Sound silly? Not really... she's 9. I sometimes have a connection between them. I don't believe it to be the cables but some setting that I've either missed or didn't configure right.

We are both running Windows XP Professional SP2. I have a hub by Linksys, a Etherfast 10/100 5 port workgroup hub, model EFAH05W. Her ethernet card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Mine however is a Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter (LNE100TX v4). I am using two modems, since dial-up is the only option here, no dsl or cable avaible. Besides, I can't do gaming on a satellite and that's the only other option besides dialup.

I've done the Network Setup Wizard with no luck. I have lights on all that needs them. The back of the cards as well as the two on the hub. I have tried letting them obtain the address automatically as well as assigning them.

I really do not want to pull out one of my modems and stick it in hers. This is absolutely the last resort. Her loving father supposedly built this computer for her but turns out she's "borrowing" it. He has setup this computer and I haven't a clue what is on, off, or whatever. I was told to "not try and use any of the parts" from the computer. I don't think I'd want to. It's a ShuttleX type of case with all the parts. I'm not saying anything bad about it, but having a computer that looks like a bread box is really weird.

If there's any information I've missed, I'll post it asap. Those little lights are moving like there's no tomorrow trying to send information but they're not recieving anything.

I hate networking. I hate XP. But, I can't format hers and go to a different OS... and I've already upgraded mine to XP to attempt to fix this. Thanks in advance for any help!
