While I hardly think this is worth a news report... we do unfortunately live in a world where people do not usually have a chance to make an impression based solely on their personality and character. So you must "advertise" yourself based on how you wish to be perceived. That includes your choice of shoes. Certainly you wouldn't wear flipflops into the average office, it wouldn't be considered professional. Maybe *I* don't give a rat's ass, but that doesn't mean I don't want to give them the appropriate visual cues that indicate they should respect me.
As for the girls... we have to take this into context. They were wearing nicer flipflops, and they are college athletes. Their dress code is different from someone who has already participated in the professional world.
