I'd call what those women are wearing nice casual, nowhere near formal. If I were going to meet the President of the United States I'd wear something more tailored and less flowery. And no flimsy little flip-flops! I don't care how much money they coughed up for those or how much sparkly stuff there is on them, they look ugly and make that annoying sound when you walk with them and are as of yet not approved formal wear. I hope they'll never be.
Still, it's kind of cute that you can come to an audience with the most powerful man on Earth in a flowery little dress and flip-flops. But I can't keep from wondering, if one of those women were going out on a hot date with, say, Brad Pitt, to say, the Academy Awards, would they still wear flip-flops?
