Fashion is not immutable.
She wasn't wearing sports or beach wear. She was wearing suede with rhinestones flip flops.
I have a pair of leather ones that I wear to the office all the time (well when it's warm).
Two notes:
1) Maybe she was trying to make a political statement about Bush being someone who can appreciate a good flip flop.
2) Why is Bush walking with canes in this pictures... is he desperate to look like Roosevelt?
