now that I have been through a full season (which was only hlafway tough, more on that later)
I have to say the stick and the change on the buttons does not bother me that much anymore, and almost seems second nature now. The game visually does not do anything for me, I am getting a NCAA 2005 groove with updated numbers that is about it. I feel like I am playing the same game with a new controller. The Pontiac Classic moments thing has been removed (I assume to make room on the disk for the new mini-camp style drills, along with the RFTH game mode).
RFTH is ok I guess for those that like to play a season/Dynasty and have to worry about nothing except the games themselves as all the recruiting, off season modes, and even the disciplining of players during the regular season is all automated by the computer, you have no say so on how many games/quarters of action your star player will miss because he was not going to classes or practices. Another flaw with the RFTH is that in the schedule screen, you can look at and play your games, that is it, whereas in dynasty you have the option of selecting a few out of conference games and changing them to higher ranking opponents which in turn raises your strength of schedule which many of you know will lead to bigger and better things once you start getting into the computer rankings the game (and real life) uses to determine your bowl game for the national championship.
now for my half easy season and the AI of the computer. I was halfway into my RFTH season and when I took the game and my mem card over to a friends house his kids changed the game settings to JV level and it auto saved so when I got back home and finished out my season I was wondering why I was running for 300 yards a game on 15 carries with 10 TD a game in the 2nd half of the season.
On the AI I feel like the JV mode as stated above is just WAAY too easy you will get turnovers on defense like it is going out of style, and on punt returns if you do not run back every single one kicked to you, then you do not need to be playing this game. On the Varsity mode (which is the only mode I play on so far) things are kind of ok, my very first time picking up the controller I put an ass whooping on them Florida Gators with my favorite FSU 'Noles 42-0 so you can have a good game but still have reasonable stats, none of this 32 yard per carry average you might hit 300 yards rushing but it is going to take a 30+ carry effort, and you will not be running the same play over and over to get it done, the computer will stop you.
all in all another solid offering from EA, but not at all what I expected, with the release of Madden a month away and the next gen system Madden due out for the Xbox 360 I expected much more from NCAA this year than I actually got.
