But, anyways, once I get de-traumatized from these last two days, I will be making the attempt to see how the purple goes. Even if that means I'll be in a baseball cap for outings in case of something said on the kid basis.

Suzz I hope you still go for it
I just got some blue dye from my brother after seeing this thread, he just so happened to not want it anymore. I'm thinking of doing the underside of my hair (after baby), so it will be there, but not 'all' over and go from there if I like it and it lasts.
I was far from trying to discourage you from your chance to be yourself, if that's what makes you happy then I say do it! I just haven't found it to be that much of a want to actually do it yet, where as your case seems a bit stonger then mine
