I agree. As long as there is freedom or the idea of freedom the system has to allow for certain amount of dissention. If we live in a Democratic society, we have to face the fact that we will have opposition to the norms.
Going on a mission to elimiate such behavior (witch hunts, the red scare, etc) have not done anything but scar the mission. Now, do not twist this around and suggest I support any of this violence. I am not. Nor am I saying we should expect this stuff. I think the government, the media and the people are asking the wrong kind of questions.
We visited NY in April of 2002 to catch the obvservation deck and also to visit the city. We spend most of our time in midtown and were happy, but as soon as we approached the lower island, the mood of the environment changed completly. It was very emotional. Needless to say I don't want to go back to lower manhatten until it is developed back to the impersonal, unemotional, economic zone that it used to be.
