Maybe Batman decides he needs something smaller, quicker, and/or more stealth like. Driving a huge loud tank around isn't exactly practical, and really it's all he had available to him at the time. I could see him wanting something just more practical, so he had a new one designed specially for him. I forget how the original Batmobile came about...Did they talk much about it in the old movies? I don't remember too much from the movies period.
