When I feel or see one coming on, I do a few things: take an Advil, take a hot shower, and try to relax.
I find that caffine withdrawl is one cause, as is high blood pressure.
Back in school, I used to wonder why I got them after drinking lots of Diet Coke, working on original Macs (@ 60Hz) under florescent lights, with a "borderline" blood pressure.
For a time, I'd take Fiorinol for migraine. It worked for me.
More recently, I've noticed that my body temperature is often way low when I have a full-blown migraine, which explains why the hot shower works. Also, delaying on taking pills makes it worse. So I've arrived at what I said in the first paragraph as my solution. If I see an optical migraine, I take a pill and hop in the shower.
