The schemes were intended to remove handguns (primarily) from circulation. They succeeded in doing this.
If you honestly believe that
reintroducing privately held handguns to the UK and Australia would reduce violent crime, then you are in the minority. Thankfully so, in my opinion.
But, by all means, continue with said opinion.
