There are some wicked suggestions in this thread.
I totally agree, with The Mars Volta, there isn't any band out there like them.
Some bands that wern't mentions would have to be:
Lightning Bolt
Hella
Horse The Band
Fall of troy
Blonde Redhead
TV on the Radio
