He is what we strive to become, either personally or as a society. In ages gone by God, or Gods have had very different personalities, manifestations and numbers. These often reflect somewhat the prevailing civil organisation of the time. If we create Gods in our own image, it might be interesting to look in this divine mirror, and learn a lot more about ourselves, and our ancestors in the process.
