In a lot of states, you can go to the motor vehicle department (MVA, DMV...) and request the tag information. However, there is a much bigger issue here... if you feel that you can't trust your girlfriend, perhaps it's time to move on. Either she's telling you the truth but you can't trust her, or she's lying to you. Regardless of which of the two is happening, the outcome looks grim.
