Yes, it does have to be directly related. There is zero verbiage in the warranty contract that states an unrelated modification will void the warranty. And a warranty cannot be voided carte blanche due to one modification.
Say I swap out my gas cover for the alloy one (I plan to). If the paint around it starts to peel. I'm shit out of luck. However, if after that change, my power steering dies, they cannot, under any reasonable terms, deny me service.
