I gained 44 pounds in 9 months after being on Ortho Tricyclen Low. I did not have a change in my diet or exercise. I had the Mirena IUD inserted 3 days ago and have just read about women who have had tremendous weight gain with it. Kinda nervous about the IUD now as I am already in my "fat clothes"! Fortunately, I have not experienced any of the other complications that these ladies talked about after having it inserted (ie excessive bleeding after insertion, cramping, etc). My gyn said that the pill does not make you gain weight, but that the hormone that is used in the pill makes you feel hungry, therefore you eat. She also stated that while the Mirena does use the same hormone as the pill, it uses less. I am curious to see how my body responds to the IUD.
