you are confusing notions of equality.
equality in a legal sense is not equal to equality in the mathematical sense.
the implication of social equality is not that everyone is identical.
it is not 1=1=1---rather social equality would be a question of hierarchy and relation to it--equality before the law is the idea that everyone has the same rights, and the same obligations before the law regardless of economic situation (for example)...
