I have been faked on before, not the ego boosting type which I don't like but can understand the reasons for, but the "I don't want to be here and want him to get off me" kind. She thought I couldn't tell I'm sure, but I could. It wasn't because I was selfish, I tried my best to pleasure her, she just didn't like sex at all. It got so bad that I actually faked it myself a few times because I wasn't into it, which is kinda funny if you think about it.
I can see why you'd do it if you didn't want to hurt his feelings, but I'd rather know, I'm mature enough to handle it and not make a big deal out of it.
My wife does not fake and never has far as I know. She usually doesn't have one during sex but will have 2 or 3 during foreplay, and if she can't she just tells me and we move on.
