A Trinitron eh? How old is this Sony monitor? If the label doesn't say Sony you can be sure it is. My last 19" flat screen only lasted 2 years. Contact their repair shop but it sounds like yours has kicked the bucket. Shaky pic is most likely from the transformer going bad. Now your bf's monitor is doing the same? Get a few surge protectors, divide the circuit loads. I hope you have at least two separate breakers for the outlets in the room.
