Is your hair straight or curlyish? Curly heads have this problem that nature wants us to beleive that we are losing massive amounts of hair in the shower, when actually, we're only getting rid fo the hair that would have blown away in the wind, had our hair not been curly and trapped it. Straight hair and curly hair loose about the same amount of hair in a single day, but because straight hair doesn't get twisted in with the other hairs, when it falls out it just leaves the head... Curly sticks around until it gets washed.

My hair is just past my shoulders and depending on humidity can be very curly or only slightly curly, neutrogena is the shampoo/conditioner is the brand I prefer most because it's gentler on color treated hair and doesn't have any fragrance in it.

No matter what shampoo/conditioner you use, wash your hair, condition it, and leave the conditioner in for a little bit, especially on the ends, then using a wide tooth comb, comb thru your hair and let the conditioner sit for a little while longer, then dunk your head to rinse it out. The comb really helps to distribute the conditioner.

Do a final rinse in as cold a water as you can stand. I don't know if this is a wives tale or not but it's supposed to seal the hair cuticle and making it reflect light better.

Get regular trims on y our hair.. t he tangled mess could be coming from split ends. Split ends don't repair themselves, they need to be trimmed. If you trim your hair yourself, get scissors designed for cutting hair, they will be sharper than household scissors and will do much less damage.
