Actually, an interesting piece of trivia is that the
British spelling is actually the incorrect, or at least inconsistent, spelling.
But let's not split hairs, eh?
It's along the same lines of people complaining that the Americans use '-ize' when '-ise' is correct. It is not. At least not in the King's English and if one were to be pedantic and/or traditional.
