And FWIW, I wouldn't be any good at being gay because I don't care for anal sex.

One would think...and i think the TFP is a more welcoming place than most.
But, the main problem is simply lack of critical mass. If these issues come up, at least from a male perspective...there are only a few active voices to answer. there are a lot of good allies...and i'm grateful for that work, but it doesn't provide a replacement for queer participation.
Think of the kinds of questions you might expect to be answered if you posted in Tiltled Sex. Would a gay poster find a similar response and information?
Think of some of the threads posted in Politics. I understand that a "clean up" effort is currently being made, but past threads have included personal attacks on queer posters. That's going to have a consequence for queer participation here.
Yes, the TFP is more welcoming than most online communities. But that's a comparison to a pretty low standard, one that i think this community has the potential to vastly supercede. And with due respect to Seretogis (see Abaya's thread for his response on the 2nd page), i think that intentional effort is necessary. Simply put...without trying to do so, this community is not going to have queer voices here. Assuming that this place is non-discriminatory simply becuase it is not actively supressing queer voices is just not a rational assumption. Our situation in a broader culture that silences queerness is cause for us as the TFP to assume that queer voices are not automatically welcome.
FWIW: plenty of gay folks don't care much for it either.
