Erm, I don't think they can. If memory serves me correctly, wasn't there several scandals back in the
Vietnam era about how the military incorrectly reported the circumstances of deaths? I can't remember for sure.
But I'm quite confident that you will find the Army
cannot, let alone
SHOULD NOT, lie to relatives about their loved one's death.
