only a quarter the way through it, but...
Resident Evil 4 for good ol' Gamecube is pretty amazing.
i've tried to get into this genre before... but RE4 is the first one that has fully integrated the GAMEPLAY with the presentation/atmosphere. the graphics are amazing and such that cutscenes are brief and excecuted on the fly. the audio is great: not much in the way of music... but the sound effects are top-notch. the continuity of the gameplay (versus just working your way from cut-scene to cut-scene) coupled with the ridiculously polished audio/video presentation makes for an engrossing experience.
i'll catch myself leaning forward or wincing in anticipation of the crazy thing that surely must be around the corner. anyone who knows me would say this is very unplatypus-like... so i think that is a testament to the game itself.
control is the only glaring shortcoming. there is no reason not to have analog movement in this day and age. it's baffling why capcom chose to incorporate digital character movement over an analog input device. you get used to it... eventually. certainly could be improved.
10/10 in sub-areas such as storyline, graphics, sound fx...
9/10 overall for this unbelievable game. goes right alongside metroid prime, wind waker and soul calibur for must-have titles.
