Turner was about to speak. He knew it. He hadn't been around long enough to pretend he'd heard it all. But he was still case-hardened; it wasn't ice water flowing in his veins quite yet, but the mercury was falling. Yeah, he was case-hardened. After her, who wouldn't be?
Those eyes, what could she have possibly done? Who so important could she have offended? What rule had she broken? What sin had she committed to bring him face-to-face with her? She had been perfect by every stretch of the word, and she still had not been able to stop it. He knew now that no one ever would. Especially not a piece of shit like Turner.
He pulled the trigger.
