I think the question's already been answered. At the beginning of last century, humankind engaged in the largest war, if not, two, in our history of the species. At that point, I think we came to realize that war was not the answer and thus, our next evolution in society has begun into a new society where wars may even become obsolete. Today, we're still evolving into that society. You have to remember, it took us 1000 years to get out of the dark ages, few hundred years to smack ourselves in the head and figure that we're not centre of the universe, few decades to figure out that gravity is there, few hundreds years to figure out that white and black people are pretty much the same, and so on, so forth.
Change takes time, it's just a matter of whether or not we embrace it.
