In NYC:
For casual, well-priced meals, Saigon Grill is really good (Vietnamese food, very well priced), although the resturant is quite packed at most times and can get quite noisy.
For something more fancy, I really like China Grill (asian fusion), although it can be hard to get seats and quite pricey...but the Pekking Duck Salad is a favorite of mine.
Calle Ocho is really great Cuban food, also quite fancy/pricey.
Haha there are just so many good resturants, I hardly know what to name. I'll keep it limited to those, as the first that popped into my head.
Oh, and for good pizza, Sal and Carmine is a favorite of mine on the upper west side. The only problem is that they don't deliver, so I usually only get around to getting it when I'm passing by.
As far as chains go, I really like The Cheesecake Factory for resturants...the staff in there always seems quite good-natured and friendly, and the food is always good and not too unhealthy...hard to find for chains, sometimes.
There aren't any Cheesecake Factories in NYC as far as I know, but I go there sometimes on trips, if I'm not up for trying something of questionable quality.
