What car should I get?
Ah, how it is to be young. I just got my first car about a year ago, 1986 Toyota SR5... I love the thing to death, but it wasn't well taken care of before I owned it and one of the cylinders got rusted with a blown head gasket. I've decided that it's time to move on.... to something with some acceleration.
I know a mechanic that can get his hands on a few different cars, and he has a 1986 Pontiac Fiero that he'd be willing to trade me for. I'm torn now, because I need something that's going to be good on gas (student n all), but I'd like to have room to pack stuff to go camping etc... I've been researching for a while, but I just can't make up my mind on anything. My price range is probably $2000-6000 and I live in Colorado, so winter driving is also a bit of an issue, but can probably be solved with good winter tires. The Fiero appeals to me because it's 4cyl, mid engine, and looks quite cool... but I'm not sure it meets all my needs.
So, here's where you come in, my fellow TFP'ers... do you have any reccommendations on 80's/early 90's cars that fit the bill? Hopefully fast, small, and reliable with some room on the interior and decent gas mileage? Hopefully not *too* dorky looking?
Cars I've considered:
Saab 900 Turbo Hatchback
Subaru Impreza Wagon
Honda Civic Wagon
Acura Integra
Pontiac Fiero (hell, why not, if I can trade even?)
