Without a frame of reference, evaluation is impossible. Otherwise, you're left with instinct, and instinct can betray you. And I don't think anyone is expecting "new" from Reznor at this point--but they are expecting "good." You shouldn't have to pick apart tracks with a sequencer to unearth what's good about a song.
