That's the reason why I would strongly suggest against a Chinchilla... It's a lot of money to spend on an animal (and chin's like company, so it's usually suggested that a person get a pair of them) for sometehing that is a temporary interest. Chin's require a lot of care and handling, and special foods - they are not set it and forget it animals.
