Great article, Art. Thank you. Didn't realize how familiar those names were growing up, een though we didn't pay much attention to racing back then. Might have been because of where I grew up-the Pinelands(NJ's version of "hillbilly").
It is this history, unfortunately, that pervades the minds of people who think NASCAR of now is nothing more than a bunch of backwoods boys, promoting a 'dirt culture' full of lower human life forms. But like everything else, while its history is rich in tradition and legend, it has evolved and continues to in a very big way, indeed.
