"Last Chance U" was my home from 1987 to 1991... Just a little before your time... I visited the campus a few summers ago and was pleased to see some of the changes... Unfortunately the buildings are still, generally speaking really ugly... which always struck me a sad because the location (in the space between the canal and the river) was potentially quite beautiful.
