Jeff Gordon made it very clear that bump-drafting isn't necessary to win or even move ahead. Jr's constant riding the bumper of #4, then Johnson smacking him fender to fender was the equivalent of bullying. They are equally to blame for that pile-up.
Another reason (restrictor plates argument notwithstanding) is the driver line-up. Truex and several others are not point contenders in Nextel yet. These drivers are there for one reason-to team-up for the purpose of bringing the team top drivers into a position to win. Didn't work as it should. When Michael finally did make it into a viable position, he left the others in the dust, just about. These team-ups 'bully' their way through and time and again, someone loses a machine as a result.
It makes for exciting racing, to be sure, but you just KNOW there's gonna be trouble and with millions of dollars at stake, should they really be taking these chances? At some point, some sponsor is going to say they're tired of putting good money into a wreck and a driver that never wins-only bullies.
