Questions about the forum guidelines
Let me preface this by saying that yes, I do want to become a regular member with all of the priveleges that implies. I think it's a fair bet that just about everyone here does. However, I'm willing to be patient about it and view it as sort of a bonus. That aside, I was sort of wondering about some of the rules here.
I originally joined up in 2004 (for the titty board, yes) and lurked around without making any posts. After leaving for nearly a year, I rediscovered TFP and decided that I like the community here. So I started posting.
I was never one to put much stock in post counts, but I do generally have a lot to say and therefore my post count has shot up fairly quickly (40 odd in 2 weeks, I think). In the charter it says to pace yourself, yet I post when I think I can contribute something to the discussion. Should I be holding off more? Is there any sort of upper limit on the number of posts that a person can make in a day, or can you fill up the boards, so long as it's a useful contribution?
And just what is a useful contribution, anyway? If I were to make a concise post of three or four sentences, would it be deemed less useful than one that is verbose (several paragraphs)? Or is that the sort of thing that's strictly a judgement call on the part of the moderators?
My probation period isn't quite up yet (unless you want to go by my join date, rather than my first post), but generally how long would it take for me to go through the review process? Again I'm willing to be patient about the whole thing as I'm here for the atmosphere and that's independent of status, but it would help my sometimes too logical mind if I could get a more specific timeframe than is provided now. My respect goes to those who do the job, as policing a forum with nearly 50 000 members (only a small fraction of whom are active, I realize, but all the same) and reviewing potential candidates must be a huge task to say the least, but I can't help but wonder if that all adds up to a long wait. Nobody likes feeling like an outsider and while I'm new enough to respect that this is my lot for now, after 200 or 300 posts I might start to feel a bit differently.
I don't want anyone to see this as griping or any such thing, that's not my intent. I was just hoping to get a more clear idea as to what's acceptable and what qualifies someone as a full fledged member here. I'd think renown is a bad way of judging in a forum with a volume as high as this one, which means there must be another way that it's handled. I'm just curious as to exactly what that is. Is it all run strictly on the judgement of the moderators, or is it a bit more structured than that?
