About the shave thing... like anything, this is a personal preference. Some women don't want you to shave. My wife hates it. She says it makes me look like a little boy and she wants to fuck and suck a man.
I also had a girlfriend who hated the smell of my soap. She wanted me musky (almost dirty) when she would go down on me... it drove her crazy and she would burrow her face into my crotch...
Aside from forcing yourself down her throat, there are no hard and fast rules about getting head.
Cimmunication is the only rule... but then again that is the main rule of sex and life in general.
