Sound card for audio recording
I'm looking for a sound card for my brother. He has some old vinyl that he wants to record to CDs. Some of what he has is high quality recordings that have been played infrequently and should be in pretty good condition.
He has a turntable and preamp that he can hook up to the line in for the sound card. So I'm looking for a soundcard that has a good analog to digital conversion and which is unlikely to have problems with picking up electrical noise from the power supply or radiated noise inside the case.
Soundcard features like enhanced audio for gaming or music synthesisers are unimportant.
I'd like to keep this in the $100.00 or less range if possible since this is a one-time deal and he doesn't have a huge amount of money to spend on this.
I'm also looking for software, either with the soundcard or free that would help with splitting a long recoding into tracks.
Do you have any recommendations? Is this a bad idea?
Thanks
