The connotations behind the word are an entirely different matter.
I feel that most people are just reacting to the fact that society has told them that a word is offensive.

I will tell you how I can be offended.....I very rarely see this word that its not being used as an insult. I know when I was in highschool it was a word used to do nothing more than start a fight.
