And you're left to wonder if he was scammed or if she was for real... I like how that leaves you wondering. It lets the reader come to their own conclusion. My guess is no, but then, I'm a realist. Out of him being scammed or she being for real the scammed option is more realistic. The pessimistic would say he was scammed for sure. The optimist would immagine her comming off the plane, wrapping her arms around him in a huge hug, and giving him a thank you kiss; they live happily ever after. Thanks for sharing.
