Jared Diamond's latest grand-theory-of-humanity book, Collapse. It's okay for those who liked Guns, Germs, and Steel (I'm not such a big fan).
Also I must highly recommend The Time Traveller's Wife as the last best book I read.
Any David James Duncan fans out there, btw? (River Why, Brothers K)... he's my fave.
