Of course this argument applies to these other professions. But this guy isn't a retired doctor or teacher, is he? I don't really have any reason to take personal offense to your critique of what this guy is saying, but I won't say it doesn't rub me the wrong way. Using this kind of rhetoric is a good way to deal with the psychological occupational hazards of being in the military or in law enforcement. It's not exactly the kind of job that makes it easy to sleep at night and I'll bet a lot of those folks would benefit from this kind of reminder. They experience more violence in a day than most people in first-world nations do in their whole lives. I don't see any reason to condescend to that.
